SP Televisão and SPi shine at the Golden Globes

COLD HAVEN was named Best Fiction Project, while Maria João Bastos won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in Fiction for her performance in CHAPTERS OF LIFE. Grupo SPTV projects received a total of 11 nominations at the 30th edition of the Golden Globes.

SPTV Group’s fiction programming was once again in the spotlight at the Golden Globes, now in its 30th edition. At the ceremony this Saturday, September 26, COLD HAVEN, an SPi production, won the award for Best Fiction Project, while Maria João Bastos was honored as Best Actress in a Fiction for her portrayal of the character Marta in CHAPTERS OF LIFE, from SP Televisão.

After the announcement of her victory, Maria João Bastos took the stage to accept the award and, visibly moved, addressed the audience: “This character was one of the greatest challenges of my career, and it was wonderful to portray her. (…) Those who were with me throughout this process know that receiving this Golden Globe and being recognised for this work and this character means a great deal to me, because it was very special, very demanding and incredibly rewarding.”

The Best Fiction Project category featured a particularly strong presence from Grupo SPTV productions. The nominees included the telenovelas VITÓRIA and CHAPTERS OF LIFE, both produced by SP Televisão, the series Rabo de Peixe, and SPi’s COLD HAVEN.

It was COLD HAVEN that ultimately took home the Golden Globe in the category. The series is a co-production between SPi and Icelandic production company Glassriver, broadcast by Síminn and RTP. Pedro Lopes, the series’ executive producer and SPi’s Chief Creative & Strategy Officer, took to the stage to accept the award alongside director Tiago Alvarez Marques and lead actress Catarina Rebelo.

On the occasion, Pedro Lopes emphasised the collaborative and international nature of the production: “This was a team project that brought together Portuguese and Icelandic crews. I am simply here representing that great team and the Portuguese talent that is creating fiction not only for Portuguese audiences, but also for international audiences.”

These awards, among a total of 11 nominations directly linked to Grupo SPTV projects, once again recognise the excellence of the creative and technical teams whose work has established Grupo SPTV as a leading name in fiction production in Portugal.
