REFUGIO DO MEDO was presented at the RTP 2025 Series in Series event
The Séries em Série - RTP 2025 event took place on February 1st at the São Jorge Cinema in Lisbon, a unique and pioneering event in Portuguese audiovisual.
RTP has invested in the production of national fiction series in recent years and 2025 is no exception. During the event, the series that will premiere this year on RTP1 and RTP Play were presented, from major co-productions to the most experimental, with productions from the north to the south of Portugal, ranging from comedy to crime, drama, historical and science fiction.
Among the fifteen series that will premiere this year, the next bet between SPi and Glassriver, Refúgio do Medo, was presented.
Refúgio do Medo is the first co-production between Portugal and Iceland that fuses the famous nordic noir with southern European influences. In this psychological thriller, the physical isolation of the island reflects the emotional isolation of the characters, creating an atmosphere of suspense, introspection and moral dilemma in that community. At the center of the plot is the character Maria, played by actress Maria João Bastos, a Portuguese woman who emigrates to the small, remote island of Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland in search of a new life for herself and her teenage daughter Bela, played by actress Catarina Rebelo. However, six months after her arrival, Maria is found lifeless in the middle of the snow.
Refúgio do Medo was presented by Pedro Lopes, General Content Director of the SPTV Group and Executive Producer of the series, with actresses Maria João Bastos and Catarina Rebelo also taking the stage, accompanied by actors Rui Morisson and Mauro Hermínio.
The Séries em Série program ended with a panel at the end of the afternoon on the importance of TV series in Portuguese audiovisual and the new multiplatform consumption.
José Fragoso, Director of Programs at RTP1, Luís Chaby Vaz, President of the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual, Susana Gato, Executive President of the Associação de Produtores Independentes de Televisão and Pandora da Cunha Telles, Vice-President of the Associação de Produtores de Cinema e Audiovisual and the European Producers Club also took part.
