Boutique Filmes and SPi sign agreements for co-production of film and series

Boutique Filmes, one of the pioneering streaming production companies in Brazil, responsible for productions such as "3%," "Mila no Multiverso," and "Rota 66 – A Polícia Que Mata," announces its first international co-production in partnership with the Portuguese company SPi. SPi, known for producing "Glória" (2021), the first original Netflix series in Portugal, is now collaborating with Boutique Filmes to create the feature film "Como Queimar a Sua Casa" and the series "A Casa das 7 Mulheres".

Tiago Mello, partner and executive producer at Boutique Filmes, highlights the long-standing interest in collaborating with Portugal: "We have always been interested in working with Portugal. I started attending events, visiting the country, meeting producers, actors, channels, and holding meetings. This is how the opportunity for the two projects arose. The film’s script naturally brought the two countries together, facilitating the co-production, and the series, in its first version, was also very successful in Portugal, which contributed to the agreement."

Mello sees great synergy between Boutique Filmes and SPi: "These are two production companies with very large creative areas. We made the first original Netflix series in Brazil, and they made the first in Portugal. We have a synergy in conversations, thoughts, and financing ideas. We are connected creatively and from a production and financing standpoint as well."

The film "Como Queimar a Sua Casa" tells the story of a young Portuguese fashion designer, played by Caroline Carvalho, who believes she is living a fairy tale after marrying an heir to the Brazilian fashion industry. However, upon returning to Brazil, the young woman meets her ruthless mother-in-law (Andréa Beltrão), who drives her to the brink of madness, bringing to light a past she tried to forget.

For Boutique Filmes, this project marks a new challenge. "It’s a challenge, but we are committed to producing many feature films. We already have several projects in development, with a very ambitious plan for this area," revealed Mello. "We want to create very important works, producing relevant content for both the Brazilian and international markets. We are focused on this path. We have been preparing for this for many years. Now I think it’s the right time to finance and launch the first works."

The series "A Casa das 7 Mulheres", one of the biggest hits on Brazilian television, will be adapted into a new eight-episode version. The plot, which has been sold to over 80 countries, comes to Boutique Filmes and SPi with a more feminine perspective, telling the story of seven women from a family defending their home during the bloody Ragamuffin War. In this new version, created by Angela Chaves, a new character will be introduced, the illegitimate daughter of the ranch owner, who joins the protagonist in defending the family.

Pedro Lopes, general content director at SPi, emphasizes the importance of this partnership: "SPi has always positioned itself as a production company that aims to put Portuguese-language fiction on the map. We believe success is achieved with the right people, and this partnership with Boutique Filmes, which has a solid and highly successful commercial track record in Brazil, is another step towards internationalization. From this synergy, two works were born, a series and a film, which we believe are quality works with the ability to communicate with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, but which can also be successful worldwide because good stories transcend borders."

The projects "Como Queimar a Sua Casa" and "A Casa das 7 Mulheres" are currently in negotiation with partners and exhibitors. "Como Queimar a Sua Casa" will be distributed in Brazil by H2O.
