SP Group at the 39th edition of MIPCom
The 39th edition of MIPCom took place from 16 to 19 October at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. João Pedro Lopes, CEO of SP Televisão, Manuel Claro, Head of Business and Co-Productions at SPi and Pedro Lopes, General Director of Content at SPi and SP Televisão were present at the "World's Greatest Gathering of TV and Entertainment Executives."
Despite the various meetings with partners and potential partners, SPi saved time on the agenda to watch the presentation of the winners of the Content Innovation Awards (CIA), in which the series Motel Valkirias was among the series nominated for the 2023 shortlist, in the category of Best New Scripted Series Non-English Language. Although it didn't win, this nomination for Motel Valkirias shows not only the high quality of the series, positioning it in the international audiovisual industry, but also that the path of co-production is very advantageous for co-producers, as it allows them to create projects with a wider reach and greater investment.
The series Motel Valkirias is a co-production between SPi and CTV, for RTP, TVG and HBO, and is available on the respective streaming platforms. It tells the story of three women with serious economic and personal problems who cross paths in a cross-border motel between Spain and Portugal and, in self-defence, kill Elixio, a motel customer who is transporting something very valuable.
The winner in this category was the Japanese series Rebooting, produced by Reina Oda and Nippon TV.
